Oral Sex and HIV infection question

Hi Jim,

First off, thank you in advance for taking the time and reading my post. Much appreciate it. 🙏🏿

I'm a 37 y/o gay male. On May 1st, me and this guy gave each other head. Good times. But, when I was down on him, he ejaculated inside my mouth. I was able to retrieve fast enough that I swalloed a small amount. The rest I spat it out. Some landed on my eye, but not inside of it (I think). Fast forward to two days later, I called the dude and told him if he can come with me to get an HIV test( 30 min ones). He said yes, and we both came out negative. I was happy to hear that. But I still had lingering feelings and doubt so I asked my doctor  to please reffer me to takr a NAT 4th gen bloodwork to scan for antibodies and antigens. So this May 24th, they did my blood work(labcorp) and got my negative results back on the 26th. Everything went well there. The exam they gave me was the HIV ab/p24 ag with reflex.

I guess my two questions are, am i at risk of getting hiv based off of the sexual encounter I recently  had?

And my second question is, did I do the bloodwork at a good window period time? I did blood work 24 days after my possible exposure.

Read your post three times.

Receiving a blowjob isn't an HIV risk to you and the eye issue wasn't an HIV risk either.

As for giving a blowjob, the mouth generally lacks a route for HIV to infect, and saliva also neutralises HIV by damaging the receptors needed to infect human cells. It's such a minute HIV risk that it doesn't warrant specific testing outside of the standard yearly screening.

So you had no specific exposure to test over and if you had had an exposure that warranted concern I would have recommended testing at 6 weeks with the labs HIV antibodies test.

Here's what you need to know to avoid HIV infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse correctly and consistently, with no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of protection against HIV

Keep in mind that some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other easier acquired STIs. So please do get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms, and the only way of knowing is by testing.

Hi everyone, happy new years..

My concern is in regards to exposure. Early this morning I hooked up with this dude. Everything was fine, he was wearing a condom, and I was bottoming. Long story short, I was too drunk so we stopped. The dude takes off his condom and then we get horny again. He inserted his penis (raw), inside of me only once, literally 2 seconds (the motion of inserting and pulling out, thrusting). When we started, he did not pre cum or anything, nor did he ejaculated inside me.

My question is, should be worried or concern? Should I take a pep just in case? Asking anyone with some medical knowledge of these types of scenarios or real life experience.

Understand that brief condomless intercourse took place. It's a potential HIV risk that certainly warrants testing.

You could consider PEP. PEP is highly effective when started within 72 hours post-exposure, although some clinics and hospitals will not prescribe it after 48 hours. So, if you want PEP, you must act sooner rather than later.

Test to confirm your HIV status six weeks after finishing PEP with a blood draw (lab) HIV antibody test. A non-reactive result at that time would rarely change, and retesting at three months is generally unnecessary.

no. oral sex is not a concern. HIV is transmitted by unprotected anal/vaginal sex or sharing injection needles.

With no exceptions, use condoms correctly and consistently for anal or vaginal intercourse
Talk to a healthcare provider about PrEP as another layer of protection

Get tested yearly for HIV and other STIs.
If you don’t use condoms and/or PrEP, test more frequently

Some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other more easily acquired STIs. It is possible to show no signs or symptoms from an STI so testing is the only way to know.
