"Clipped Wings", a short documentary about the discriminatory policies of the BSA, tells the story of Liam Easton-Calabria, a candidate for the rank of Eagle who came out before the BSA allowed gay scouts. The film also follows Geoff McGrath, a scoutmaster who was ejected from scouting because of his sexuality.

The film was made by award-winning Ballard High School film students Leo Pfeifer, Duncan Gowdy and Coleman Andersen. Between them, their films have been honored by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and various regional, national and international festivals including the Seattle International Film Festival and the Chicago International Film Festival.

Another oldie but goodie by "The Who" From 1967.  I was 16 at the time:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ls8t1AcXN_o

"Happy Jack" ( From 1967 )

Happy Jack wasn't old, but he was a man
He lived in the sand at the Isle of Man
The kids would all sing, he would take the wrong key
So they rode on his head on their furry donkey

The kids couldn't hurt Jack
They tried and tried and tried
They dropped things on his back
And lied and lied and lied and lied and lied

But they couldn't stop Jack, or the waters lapping
And they couldn't prevent Jack from feeling happy

But they couldn't stop Jack, or the waters lapping
And they couldn't prevent Jack from feeling happy

The kids couldn't hurt Jack
They tried and tried and tried
They dropped things on his back
And lied and lied and lied and lied and lied

But they couldn't stop Jack, or the waters lapping
And they couldn't prevent Jack from feeling happy

Do tell, you climbed it? How high. I lazily take the lift to Schwarzsee every winter when I ski. Basically you ski down the back foot hills of the Cervin (Matterhorn in French).
Its very quiet back there not many skiers and there are some good restaurants.
There's a touching cemetery in the centre of town where many climbers are buried after their epic fatal falls. People light those cemetery candles and at night in wintr there are little spots of lights in the snow piles and you think about the whole human drama of the peak.  I have moderate vertigo and can barely manage hiking the the safe mountain trails.  Would never ever consider a high Alps ascent.

i spent a month in the swiss alps long time ago. but no, i didn't summit matterhorn, stayed in zermatt for a few days, did day walks. breathtaking stuff, really. saw the military firing mortars, setting off avalanches. what a sound.

as much as i love hiking and backpacking; crag climbing, roped ascents, that sort of thing... doesn't really appeal to me as much.

i would love to return and hike the more of the GR trails though, that would be time well spent to me

Kenan has been the best performer on that show in recent years, never mind the supposed stars who split for mediocre at best film careers...
He makes it look easy and I am guessing enjoys some sort of comfortable life just sticking with SNL....

The Thanksgiving one is my favorite.  It still applies to Christmas, summer, or whenever.  How many of us know people like this?  Parents do everything for them.

The Back Home Ballers.  SNL has been struggling, but this music skit was good.

Been watching South America movies lately.
This technicolor noirish film of this summer, from Argentina, has the muy deliciosa Chino Darin set in a cheesey gay 80's milieu.   More of him, please! (He's Ricardo Darin's son and also a third generation actor for this fab Argentinian family.)

The older cop ain't bad, either!  (Mexican actor Demian Bichir)

Talk of marriage has me singing this song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAn3JdtSrnY

You expressed explicitly your contempt for matrimony
You've student loans to pay and will not risk the alimony

We spend our days locked in a room, content inside a bubble
And in the night time we go out and scour the streets for trouble

 Hey hey
 Marry me Archie
 Hey hey
 Marry me Archie

During the summer, take me out sailing out on the Atlantic
I won’t set my sights on other seas there is no need to panic

So honey take me by the hand and we can sign some papers
Forget the invitations, floral arrangements and bread makers

 Hey hey
 Marry me Archie
 Hey hey
 Marry me Archie

Too late to go out and
 Too young to stay in
 They're talking about
 Us living in sin

 Hey hey
 Marry me Archie
 Hey hey
 Marry me Archie

 Hey hey
 Marry me Archie
 Hey hey

Many young people live half their lives virtually. I have more students every year who are connected permanently. I don't bother policing that with the smart and successful ones cause they're managing. God knows what kind of mind that is building, however.

The challenge is the ones who can't succeed in real life because of the distraction of their virtual life. And won't disconnect.

How and why are these videos so popular?  First one has like 280 MILLION views and the other 100 MILLION.  These people have become millionaires from these videos.  I know YouTube starts paying you after 3,000 views??  Does anyone know how much money?  I began to wonder whether some could be using computers to fake-view videos, so they get so many views.  I suppose that's possible, right?  I'm going to start uploading videos like this.  Ellen mocked the second video.  She wore the thumb ring and everything.

How and why are these videos so popular?

I find the popularity of "unboxing" videos interesting. I had never seen the videos you posted but I can understand them being a hit with children, although I would have never guessed these videos would generate such huge numbers. My personal theory is that there is something about discovering what is inside of something that stimulates the primitive areas of our brain, particularly if there are layers involved. Children, primates, even your dog will become fascinated when a box, package or seed pod is opened. There is something primal about pulling the ribbon, peeling off the paper, taking a peek at what is inside... and, like other primal experiences, when one looks at the behavior from a purely rational perspective it can appear silly.
