- Female/+ Male & children
« on: February 06, 2007, 11:12:20 AM »
Does anyone have up to date information on couples having children (-female/+male)?
I'm just trying to see what the status is on this topic and what progress is being made if any.
Does anyone know of anyone who may be very familiar with this situation?
All the info that I've come up with online has been pretty dated.

Thanks in advance!
Peace & health

Hi Med,

I don't have any info on this, but I know that is a big question for my fiancee and I, as we both want children, but our situation is sort of reversed though.  She is pos and my status is not yet known ( but I am probably neg).  So please let me know of any material you come across in your search and I will do the same for you.

There are a few schools of thought here.

Sperm Washing is a great alternative for a serodiscordant couple.  http://www.aidsmap.com/en/docs/B70324A6-1225-48AA-BDF4-E319525B9EF2.asp

Invitro is another route to try but its very expensive.

And finally there is the traditional method (unprotected intercourse) which carries some risk.  I have read in some places where the risk of transmission can be reduced to 1 or 2 % that she becomes infected.  Im not sure how I feel about this one as of yet.  Obviously for those who dont have the financial means this may be the only option to have children.  Pregnancy is a risky thing in and of itself so im not sure what "risk of HIV" infection I would consider to be acceptable.  And it may be there is NO right answer on this one.

Hope this helps some.
