Statin here I come…
« on: August 07, 2024, 06:42:14 pm »
Well after going vegetarian and also beginning exercise and dieting, my cholesterol continues to creep up. So I decided to go on Lipitor. I was amazed at the study where over 40 HIV positive men benefitted in the long run from using statins.

Now comes the hard part, do I go back to meat and real eggs, or stay with the veggies and egg whites 🤔

Total meat eater myself, but if you are enjoying the vegetarian diet and have access to good quality fruits, nuts and vegetables then why change?

Hi numbers, hope you're good. My cholesterol numbers went through the roof on Bik, and continued to get worse on Dovato. I started a low dose statin (10mg) 6 months ago, and my cholesterol halved in that time. I did cut out milk largely, changed to oat milk, otherwise still eating meat, eggs etc. My cholesterol was always at the high end of the scale, even though I ate mostly according to what they say to, as well as exercising regularly. So you should do well on them. If you get the option, do a calcium scan - they're only $120 or so anyway, these can show you build up in your heart arteries, the lower the score the better condition - my doc sent me to one telling me I was going to be really bad, and I actually had perfect results. But it's a good test to give you an indication. Good luck and best wishes. One thing with eggs that a lot dont know, the yolks contain a compound that emulsifies cholesterol, and it's quite wrong to think eating the yolk will harm you - in moderation everything I've read and asked about - they're just fine to eat whole.

Oh wow thank you these insights. I haven’t heard of a calcium scan before. I think I’ll probably remain meat free except for dog, and maybe work some real eggs in from time to time. I’ll just be less strict (I think) thank you again!!! Have a great weekend!

Eat real eggs. I do, and I have been vegetarian since 1990! Eggs are a good food. I pay top dollar for mine.

Skip the meat. You will reduce suffering and lengthen your life. Plant-based diets repeatedly show those who consume them live longer (and better) on average.

I had two basted eggs with avocado toast and ruby-red grapefruit juice and grits for my breakfast. God damn it was good!

:-)

You sound like a fantastic cook! So I’ve settled on pescatarian and introduced real eggs back into my diet. Let’s see what my numbers look like in Nov when I have my next bloodwork done.
