NL - Delivery man throws package over fence and kills Okkie

In the Dutch news.

Translation:

Quote
Last week, a deliverer driver threw a package containing 15 kilos (33 lbs) of dog food over the fence of a house in Almere in The Netherlands. The package landed on a pet rabbit Okkie.

The resident took Okkie to the vet, but the rabbit's pelvis had been broken, and had to be put to sleep.

PostNL confirmed the incident to RTL News. The company's depot manager visited the resident with flowers to apologize, 'and we will of course, reimburse the vet's costs'.

Vreeswijk (The resident) told a local news agency that although he is happy with PostNL's response. It won't bring Okkie back. Vreeswijk also found it strange that the delivery person would throw a package over a 1.90 meter (6.2 feet) fence when unable to see where it may land.

Vreeswijk is annoyed that he had to find out what had happened through the door neighbour's kid and security camera footage - which showed the delivery person returning half an hour later to put the package elsewhere. Vreeswijk said: "There is, of course, a lot of pressure on those guys. But at least put a note in the mailbox that something went wrong."

The delivery driver sounds like an idiot and it's very sad for the rabbit. However, I could not help but think it would have been worse if it had hit a kid or someone in the head.

the driver is an idiot. Who throws a 30+lb. package over a fence? the chances of the package bursting open is a huge issue; much less the package hitting a person.

Yup, utter moron for sure.

I appreciate these companies are under huge pressure, particularly as online shopping has really boomed; that said, when you hear and see how some parcel companies behave with packages, nothing surprises me. Sooner or later, someone, or as in this case, a rabbit, was going to get hurt.

I caught a news report on tv today that discussed some of the drivers getting hurt. To keep up with the demand these days, companies have been paying for outside drivers. These people deliver packages early hours, after work hours, and weekends - often using their own vehicles and with no uniforms or corporate identification. Some of these drivers have been attacked and harmed.

seems like packages, rabbit and people are all taking the brunt of corporate greed.
