VL blip from UD to 39 copies during inflammation
« on: September 12, 2020, 01:10:34 pm »
Hi there online friends.
During COVID-19, my ID doctor appointments are suspended. My last VL test was in November 2019, it was UD, <20copies/ml. I have a good adherence, I never forgot to take any pill.
Three weeks ago I got Chlamydia trachomatis, I had fever and swollen lymph nodes, so I did CBC, ESR and CRP labs, before I went to the dermatologist. I think I can do the HIV-RNA test at that time, because the last one was near a year ago. I don't suspect my inflammation can be so high before my labs return.
Unfortunately, there was high rectal inflammation, ESR 80 and CRP 150, so I got doxycycline and it dissolves the symptoms in a few days. Today, my HIV-RNA returns and it is detectable, it is 39 copies in one milliliter.I can't stop worrying about it, I can't work, I can't stop thinking and reading about it. Should I do this lab again? When should I perform the next HIV-RNA lab?In Poland we have to wait about three weeks for results. What should I think about it?Thank you in advance for any suggestion.

scientifically anything <200 is controlled HIV.

As someone who has lived with HIV for 35 yrs, let me tell you that a VL of 39 is absolutely nothing to care about. :)

I agree with what leatherman said. Your HIV is still well controlled, and while detectable, it would not even be considered a blip.

I had a similar result last week. After being diagnosed in November of last year and reaching undetectable in January, most recent result came back at detectable but under 40 copies/mL. My doctor assured me that everything is great. Iím sure itís the same with you.

Thank you for cheering me up. I'll email the result to my ID doctor on Monday. I'm curious if she will arrange an appointment and take blood for the VL test again. Please notice, I did the VL test in a private lab.

In Poland, doc should perform VL tests two times per year. I haven't any VL perform tests by my doc this year yet. Maybe the next result without inflammation will be UD.
Now, it is time for CD4s screening, maybe my doc will perform it, and I don't have to pay for it.
I worry too much due to my late diagnosis and my low CD4's after two years of treatment.

39 is not even a blip, it's still suppressed, i.e UD. Try to relax.
