Pneumonia vaccine
« on: April 28, 2020, 06:01:21 am »
Its been a while since i posted on the forum. Hope everyone is well and keeping safe in these troubled times.

My GP in the UK just called and offered me the pneumonia vaccine. Nurse advised that it can cause inflammation. Searching on google seems that inflammation could be significant and disruptive for a few  days.
Just wanted to check what the experience here is.

In the middle of a pretty intense period at work so if the effects are disruptive then would consider pushing it back to a time.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Hiya,

I noticed a tiny bit of localised soreness and swelling, same as with any vaccine I've ever had, nothing more than that.

Including some information below if you want some.

More on the vaccine and side effects.
https://vk.ovg.ox.ac.uk/vk/ppv

Quote
Side effects
Very common (affecting more than 1 in 10 people at each dose):

soreness, pain, redness, warmth, swelling or hardening at the injection site
raised temperature (fever)

Rare (affecting up to 1 in 1000 people at each dose):

swelling in the injected limb Anaphylaxis
As with any vaccine, medicine or food, there is a very small chance of a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis). Anaphylaxis is different from less severe allergic reactions because it causes life-threatening breathing and/or circulation problems. It is always extremely serious but can be treated with adrenaline. Health care workers who give vaccines know how to do this. In the UK between 1997 and 2003 there were a total of 130 reports of anaphylaxis following ALL immunisations. Around 117 million doses of vaccines were given in the UK during this period. This means that the overall rate of anaphylaxis is around 1 in 900,000.

I've had a few Pneumonia shots over the past 15 years, or longer.

My partner and I got ours a week apart, this last time around. His from his GP and mine from my primary care. ( Actually I got it from the nurse)

The pneumonia shot always caused me some tenderness and slight discomfort, in the area of where it was given. Compared to other shots or vaccines,.. never lasted that long. A couple of days.

Both myself and my partner, had soreness on the last shot we received, but it was minimal.

And I am also pretty sure, that I had the pneumonia shot and the flu shot given to me at the same time, last year.
