Introduction PosiiveQueries & Question Medicine Switch
« on: March 20, 2020, 02:45:51 am »
Hi All, a new member here.

I have been positive for past 4 and a half year and have been taking meds since then with a cd4 count 801 and VL which is due in April. I have been taking treatment from ART provided by govt free of cost.ART treatment is free in my country in govt hospitals.

I was taking combo of TLE (Tenofovir300mg Lamivudine 300mg & Efavirenz 600mg, Total 1200 mg) which initally had side effects but gradually body got accustomed to it. But one thing was there (due to high dose) that is getting up early in the morning used to make me feel dizzy and after taking the medicine at night, i used to feel very heavy. And I had low energy compared to pre HIV stage

So, recently, a few days ago infact, i have switched to a combo of TLD which has low dose (Tenofovir300mg Lamivudine 300mg & Douletravir 50mg) along with multivitamins recommended from a pvt clinic..I heard this is a good alternative to TLE..Is it true?

Secondly, i have not yet informed to ART center (will tell in the next visit) and probably privatise my treatment fully in due course. But worst case scenerio,if i had to switch back to TLE, will it create any problem? Is TLD a good option?

Please suggest,

These are questions for a doctor and or a pharmacist.

The only thing I'd venture to comment on is that your new combination has a long track record with other patients.

Welcome to the forum, sorry to hear that you have been experiencing dizziness.

Regarding TLD, never taken that combination myself. I've been on all 3 drugs in the TLD combo at some stage.

TLD is now considered the preferred first-line in some countries and a replacement of TLE. All I can add is Dolutegravir works great for me, although, like any drug, it's not everyone's cup of tea. Anyhow, it's been prescribed by the doctor, all 3 drugs have proven results so if I was you I would give it a go, try it and see how you get on in a few weeks time.

Best, Jim

Comparative effectiveness tenofovir/lamivudine/efavirenz (TLE) vs tenofovir/lamivudine/dolutegravir (TLD)
