Hiya,

I'm sorry to hear you're in so much pain/darkness, I know the news of HIV diagnosis can be a shock and a lot to digest. You are not alone.

How were you diagnosed? What test and what were your test results like?

Practically speaking HIV is no longer a barrier to a long and healthy life, so on that front did the doctor not schedule a follow-up meeting to go over treatment?

Regarding how you are feeling is another matter, is there someone you can talk to? If you do feel that you might hurt yourself please go to the hospitol

I got tested 2weeks ago and got the phone call that i needed to come in, i asked is it bad? She replied i just need you to come in so we can talk. That moment i felt my heart plummet. I went and we went to a secluded then she said we got your test results back and i did test positive for hiv.  She was very nice and sweet, she gave me all the information i needed. And a followup for treatment. Ive been shaking ever since.

How my partner responds to this is what im worried about now

Right, well I'm really sorry to hear about the reactive HIV result.

As said I can understand its a shock. I'll presume the test was an antibodies test (unless you have results otherwise to share) and it's reactive so that's not a diagnosis, they are highly sensitive but not very specific. So any reactive result on initial antibodies tests means confirmation testing is needed to confirm your status.

So first things first, I would recommend not to overthink this too much, speak to the doctor at the follow-up meeting and until you have confirmation testing done I am going to ask you to only post in this one thread and have moved it to the "AM I" section.

Well, your partner will need to test as well for the sake of their own health. Ultimately you can't control somebody's reaction, all you can do is try to deliver the message as calm as possible. My experience would be calm and to the point is best just be ready for them to ask a lot of questions.

There is a poz article on disclosure that might help https://www.poz.com/basics/hiv-basics/disclosure

Keep us posted, you are not alone.

Best, Jim
