Question about changing medication, please guide
« on: June 21, 2019, 04:36:57 am »
I am a 36 year old male who tested positive in 2015. Since then I am on a 2 times a day medication regimen. I have raltegravir 800 mg (400 mg tablets, once morning and once evening) and one tenofovir disoproxil fumarate and emtricitabine tablet in the morning.

I would like to shift to single dose regimen or TLE, which is the tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, lamivudine and efavirenz combination. The single dose will be far more simple to manage. Also since I buy my own medication the expense of the current regimen makes a huge dent on my income. TLE is significantly cheaper.

While I will change meds only under medical supervision I want to know if the single dose TLE combo is as effective as my current one. Does it have any negatives as compared to my current twice a day regimen? Affordability is becoming a problem for me and I cannot go to government centres....so the cost burden will always be on me. I would like to switch to a cheaper option. My physician though good seems to have a vested interest in keeping me on the expensive medication since I currently purchase medicine from him directly.

Please advise. I am outside the usa.

I think a member has to have 3 posts before being able to respond with PMs
