Weak, tired and sore
« on: October 24, 2018, 07:29:48 pm »
I am a long-term survivor-27 years and counting!- who once had lactic acidosis as a reaction to NRTIs. After a holiday, I went on protease inhibitors.  I never got over feeling weak with sore muscles and peripheral neuropathy.

I have been reading about mitochondrial damage that is irreversible.  It seems this can cause all my symptoms. I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience. I guess lactic acidosis is a rare side effect (lucky me!) but I'd love to share thoughts if someone else is in the same place.  Thanks

ojo.     Hello there, and welcome to the forum

I did have lactic acidosis too (viread), my doctor was surprised that I was getting it from that medication. I do have the same symptoms you mentioned, my  neuropathy is so bad that I have drop feet and drop toes, causing lots of pain and discomfort walking. I walk like if I were drunk. So, I'm sorry for your pain but I guess we cannot do anything about it... I would love to keep in touch with you so we can share experiences and maybe, we can find a solution to lessen the pain...hugs.                                  ojo

Vitamin B12 helps some with the neuropathy. It's important to keep your level up.

I also recently read that CoQ10 can help with the mitochondrial damage, but I've just started that so don't know if it will really help.

It seems that once you've had lactic acidosis, there is some irreversible damage. Doctors don't seem to know much or offer much, but I am SO tired of being tired!

ojo.    Hello, and thanks for replying. That B12 vitamin is all good. That CoQ10 I tried that way back in the 90s and it doesn't work neither. So I guess we had to keep living with this fatigue and symptoms to tell you the truth oh, I have learned to live with them. Please keep in touch and let me know if the CoQ10 works for you.  Good luck.. hugs
