Thought I was good but no?
« on: June 14, 2018, 07:38:32 pm »
Hey all,
Having a bit of a panic. Thought I was all good but read otherwise.
Gay male, had receptive sex with man of unknown status.
Condom was pretty lose (whether he went soft or just had an ego and thought he was bigger than be was) and I'm concerned that semen could have leaked out of the base of the loose condom whilst inside of me?

I know HIV dies once exposed to air but he was fully inside of me with a lose condom and therefore any potential HIV could leak out of the base of the condom inside me.

Tried to reassure myself thinking that any HIV in the semen would have died before it reached the base due to the spermacide and coming into contact with the rubber?

Condom was still on when he pulled out but it was pretty lose so yeah am I at risk if semen leaked out of the base whilst still inside of me? Head of his penis was covered entire time but as above, is it possible anyhow?

I took PEP within 36 or so hours after "exposure" but stupidly missed my dose on the second day. I know, idiotic.

As above, anyone ease an anxious mind?

You will be fine, no doubt.

From my reading of your facts, you were very unlikely to have been at risk in the first place (leakage of condoms at the base are rare, if existent at all, unless your partner was, I don't know, a walrus?).

Seriously, in addition, you are on on a PEP regimen, which is highly effective, despite a missed dosage.

Continue your PEP regimen and work with your healthcare providers to conclude it and test conclusive negative for HIV-antibodies (which I fully expect from the facts you have revealed in your post).
