Side effects of Norvir, Truveda and Prezista
« on: May 06, 2015, 04:36:57 pm »
I just started taking these three drugs. I was looking to find out what are some of the side effects. I work up yesterday with the worst headache I have ever had in my life. Still have it.
I had diarrhea for the first 3 days until I switched taking them at night and starting taking probiotics again and the diarrhea has subsided. My vision is a little blurry in the morning but seems to clear up around 10 am.

Will they go away in time or is this something that will continue over time.

I witched to these meds from Truvada and Isintress. This is my first experience with porteaze Inhibitors.  Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yes they will subside.  However norvir could always raise a little havoc with some people's digestive tracks. As you discovered, you have to find workarounds.

Why did you switch?

Give any med a few weeks to really acclimate. I was on that combo all of last year and tolerated it well.  I do manage my bowels with meds, and probably eat to many goodies powders everyday... but I do all that no matter what regimen I'm on

Welcome to the forums Wallace.

I was also on Truvada and Isentress mixed in with a little Intellence.  I had horrible insomnia so my doc changed me to Truvada, Prezista and Norvir.  I immediately had horrible results and stayed with it for several months and things only seemed to get worse.  I went from Insomnia to being exhausted contantly and sleeping half the day away.  The diarrhea was similar to what we experienced in the 80's.  And it never went away.

After switching back, these all subsided.  Insomnia is back; but we have to pick our side affects carefully.  :)

What isn't true. I specified norvir can not play nicely, ever, for some people.

Mecch, you categorically stated that; yes, it will subside which isn't always the case.

Thank you to all who have responded. I appreciate the insight.  I switched meds because I was showing some muscle issue with the Inentress.  My Dr also wanted to start me on a protease Inhibitor. Again  previously I was on Truvada and Isentress.  I did also have muscle aches and cramps.  My muscles seemed less strong during my routines at the gym.

Any thoughts on the switch?

if you say so.

I was on norvir. It didn't play nice with me.

We know other people are fine.

That's what I said. Lets drop this shall we?

I thought I responded in a dignified way without causing too much strife.  I stand by my comments and wasn't simply jumping in to cause friction.  I have a little knowledge in the subject of meds and their affects.  I was simply saying that you can categorically state that which is not always true.

But since you took the time to twice tell me that the ignore feature is now back.....?  I'm pert near as educated as you (perhaps more so?) and have never swung that sword.  But you are correct in that I don't understand everything but I digress.

peace!!! but was it really necessary to send me 2 messages that you're ignoring me?

Sorry to the OP, I was truly trying to give a little knowledge in the part of this that I know.

I took Isentress during 2 months and it gave me terrible nightmares and I was also quite depressed, so my doctor put me only on Truvada + Prezista + Norvir.

I was on that combo for 8 months and there were some side effects. The headaches disappeared after 1-2 weeks but the diarrhea was there constantly.

Thanks for the info I really appreciate it.  It has been about 2 weeks and the headaches seem better.  I started taking Probiotics and the diarrhea seems to have stopped.  Why were you on the combo for only 8 months?

To Wolfter and Mecch,

Thank you for your response to the questions I asked. As for Wolfter comments I completely understood that you were speaking for your own personal experience and not making a blanket statement about drugs.

What bothers me is the back and for that seems personal and petty to me on a blog about me and my concern with meds. Now anyone that reads my questions may get lost in the nonsence of the back and forth.  Again I thank you for your imput and ask that you not use a forum, that I create to help me , for your issues.

regards

This was because I wanted to switch to a one-pill treatment. At the end, it was not the best idea and I'm currently considering switching back.

I apologized and moved on.  There was no need for you to "school" me especially after several days thereby continuing the distraction.

PS, this isn't a blog and you didn't help create the forum.  ;)

how do you feel five days later? objectively, are you still feeling the same sort of side effects? do you keep a journal of your symptoms? it can help to give you some perspective looking back. certainly bring all this up on your next visit, see if you doctor things another med switch is called for. or if things get significantly worse, reach out to them

I take the same three and only when I have cold drinks, I  have diarrhea.
Just one can of pop is OK but more than that is a problem.

Take care.

Hi , Zach is right ,
Keep track of your side affects, and weigh out if a switch is
needed. I was on the same regiment only included issentress as well
till just a little over a month ago .the only difference now is I switched out
The norvir for tybost.I have taken norvir since it's liquid form.

I'm sorry if I missed this in your post ,was this your first combo ?
Keep in mind all of these meds will give everyone different side affects,
if any . From my own experience this  proved to be a good combo.
They are all powerful drugs, norvir was the back bone of the PI s in the 90s.
It was usually used as an individual drug and in large doses , now is used as a booster, for other PIs. Tybost also boosts Prezista , just food for thought.

Hope your feeling your feeling better, Wade

I am actually responding pretty well. Just a slight headache no more diarrhea or upset stomach. I think i am hopefully settling into the  new combo.  Still a little tired but if that is all there is than I am very happy.

I was on Isentress and Truvada before and swithed to this combo. Thanks for all the valuable insight and info greatly appreciated.

It's funny, I've been on the same combo since 2013 with no visible side effects. The only thing I've noticed, and I can't even be sure if it's related to the combo, is that I feel worse when I drink too much.

With all respect to everyone reading I always take the HIV medicine side effects thing with a pinch of salt because I'm quite aware how a lot of people blame the medicine for every single thing that happens to them, from a headache to diarrhoea, and a lot of times one has nothing to do with the other.

HIV meds processed by the liver seem to affect how the liver handles alcohol, in short, you get less drunk (per drinkl) and feel more hungover (per drink). This includes all protease inhibitors taken with Norvir, Efavirenz and some other meds.
