Hi Nick,

Same thing going on here ! On the last two visits to the eye doctor, I brought it to his attention. I am currently on a 6 month eye exam schedule.

The doctor advised using the over the counter drops, to see how this would work, but suggested the possibility of a prescription in the near future. ( this was on the last visit)

I will see him again in March, so I may be getting a new prescription as well.  The over the counter helps, but doesn't do the job that well.

Take care---Ray

Hi Nick,
Have been using those drops when needed for several years now.
I have to use strong steroid drops in my cornea transplant eye I had several
years ago. that alone dries out my eye . I use the over the counter brands,
found them just as good as the script ,the larger over the counter are easier to handle too ! Have an eye appointment with my cornea specialist on the 26th,
noticed a change in my vision in my good eye, I see thicker glasses in my
future ! no pun intended. In my experience stick with the over the counter.

thnx  for  info  Wade.... I have  some  now  but was surprised  to see so  many brands/types  on the  shelf..    and  such a variety of  prices  saw  Visine+   for  $1.00  and  a range  up  to  $25... got the one  Dr  said  were most  effective  will see how they  work .... both of them  together  were  $12...   the  drops are actually  individual  little  one use snap off   capsules   the  "gel" is traditional  small pointy   bottle.

Yup,
I used those for a while,
Think the reason for the small bottles is to reduce risk of infection.
If you use the larger lubricant bottles, be careful not to touch the tip with anything, you should be fine.
There are plenty of brands on  the shelf !
like I said I prefer the larger bottles, mostly because when your holding your head back and squeezing a bottle over your eye something comes out !!!

ojo      Hi pozniceguy....if your doctor gave you artificial tears, try to use the one without additives, they are the single dose, tho, you can get like three or four drops out of it...good luck....hugs     ojo

Yeah, I've had this problem for a while now along with very dry mouth. Long term use of medication exasperated by high doses of anti-convulsants in the (failed) attempt to decrease my neuropathy pain. I just use over the counter drops though -- there's one called Blink "Gel" Tears that sounds similar to what you are using, Nick.

thnx  for  comments guys... been using  the both  types  now  for a few weeks   the  "gel"  works best  overnite...and the  "drops"  seem best  during the  day...will  try  different "brands"  when I  need more to see if  any  are better....still  have  some "sand in the eye" feeling in one eye some  of the time  usually put  a few drops  to  relieve that...hoping  for  longer relief  than a few hours

Glad your getting some relief Nick,
I know a sore scratchy eye can drive you crazy.
I should have mentioned the gel drops are better
when used at night , they are thick and can blur your vision,
at least that's what they did to me.

Saw my eye doc this past week , I have to up my steroid drop dosage
as my cornea is at risk of rejecting , need new stronger glasses too ,
Oh Boy !

ojo     Hi Bubba, are you using the single dose eye drops?...my cornea specialist recommends those, because the ones on the bottle have preservatives and affect the cornea too....same for you poznice, talk to your dos about this, I've been dealing with cornea problems for a long time,, and chronic dry eye...hugs   ojo

Hi Tony ,
I don't use the single dose , tears or gel. I have not had any problems.
the bigger bottles are just easier for me the maneuver into my eye.
I don't know about the preservatives  .
I don't think Nick has any cornea problems ,or infection, so the ones he's using shouldn't be a issue.
You take care my friend !

ojo     Hi Nick, gel is okay,..it won't hurt to ask your eye doctor tho...Bubba is right Nick, we both have serious cornea issues, but, like I said, it won't hurt to ask your eye doctor about the eeye drops...hugs   ojo
