bf just told me he is hiv+
« on: October 23, 2014, 11:17:39 am »
Hi guys I'm looking for some good resources and facts about my situation. I have been dating a great guy for almost a month now and the other day before things got a little to hot and heavy he told me he is hiv+. I now understand how hard it must have been for him to tell me however I also want to make sure I can get all the information necessary to stay safe. Is it safe for me to continue in a relationship. Obviously sex will come up and I want to take all necessary precautions to stay safe.
I would appreciate any and all comments and information
Thank you! Sincerely

you have found a good resource. trust the answers you get here.

start educating yourself. yes, it is safe to continue a relationship. yes, precautions need to be taken during sex. protect yourself.

is your boyfriend in treatment? on meds? suppressed viral load? if yes to all of the above, GREAT. makes moving forward much smoother. that is treatment as protection

have you considered truvada, for yourself, as pre exposure protection (prep)?

i'm can say with confidence, and i think most here will sound in agreement (or slightly tweak what i say)

if the poz partner is on haart meds, and has a reliably undetectable viral load

use condoms AND/OR prep
