Things to do in San Diego
« on: June 22, 2014, 06:58:00 pm »
Since the 2014 AMG is just around the corner, I thought I'd get together a few fun things to do in San Diego.

http://www.sandiego.org/articles/25-fun-free-things-to-do-in-san-diego.aspx

Little Italy:
http://www.sandiego.org/articles/downtown/little-italy.aspx

Missions:
A big part of San Diego's history.  Note that Mission San Juan Capistrano Juan Capistrano is actually in Orange County north of San Diego and is about 60-75 minutes away.  Sharing a rental car or Amtrak are options.

Hillcrest:
This is the gay / trendy area where many of us will spend quite a bit of time, I'm sure.

San Diego Zoo:
This is a great zoo with lots to see.  There's also a tour bus that's a cheap add-on to admission to see more of the zoo without all the walking (it's a big zoo).

San Diego Maritime Museum:
This is on the waterfront with quite a few other things to do, places to eat, etc.

Balboa Park:

Oldtown San Diego:

Gaslamp Quarter:

Coronado:
This is a small, affluent island city adjacent to San Diego that's pricey but free to visit (except for parking).  The beaches are nice, the food is good, and it's near to where we'll be staying.

Blacks Beach:
This is in La Jolla just north of San Diego.  There's a path down a cliff that leads to the beach below.  Turn left for the family beach or turn right for the gay / nude beach.

SeaWorld:

I've enjoyed most of these and would recommend them; the places I haven't visited have been recommended to me, though.
