hiv in Dubai? :(
« on: June 19, 2014, 10:15:36 AM »
hi, I'm an Argentinian living in the Philippines, I relocated here 10 month ago and I get my medication for free in this country.
I'm living with hiv during 9 years.
Today I ve 2 very good interviews to work in Dubai as an expat... and I dont have a working visa yet.
Recently I started to read about testing HIV in dubai and now Im afraid to continuos with the other interviews, because I've read about deportation, and also that its ilegal import hiv medication... does someone know if that information its up to date please?

Hi argentino, as someone who lived in Dubai many many years ago, my advice will be to think through this very very thoroughly. Although, Dubai is not your typical middle eastern country - on the surface it looks and feels very modern, but most people who live there are very conservative in their outlook.
Even if you are able to somehow import your medication, imagine going to the hospital or doctors and telling them that you are positive. So what I'm telling you is that even if you find out that it is now legal to import HIV medication, the rest of the society will not be very accepting of your condition.

Yes Dubai will deport an HIV+ worker.

I worked in Dubai before I was infected.  In order to get your permanent work visa, you go to a government clinic to get a health check that includes a blood test.

I am pretty sure they do test for HIV in that medical exam, so you would likely be discovered within the month and quite likely expelled.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
