Am I Infected ? Please help...
« on: January 10, 2014, 09:42:02 PM »
hello Sir/Madam: I had protected vaginal and oral sex with sex worker on Nov 19,2013 which lasted about 45 minutes.Right after sex, I had fever about 99F which went away on that night and came back again.Next day I took Tylenol and fever went away. After two days fever about 99F came back along with other symptoms (stomach pain, scrotum pain, diarrhea so I got scared and went for HIV and other STD test 3 days after exposure and all came negative. So from day one till now (Jan,8.2014) I still have fever about 99.2 which come and goes on its own. Now I have another symptoms as well like headache, stiff neck, ear pain, eye pain stomach pain, but no diarrhea and scrotum pain.I have been to ER twice and doctors have done all kind of test but couldn't find anything. They told me this is Fever of unknown origin and need to see infection specialist.

I am really scared at this point and pretty much convinced that I have contracted HIV. I really want to know what you expert thinks. Does HIV fever lasts for more than 2 months and comes and goes in its own.

I really appreciate your help on this matter.

I know that one can post  comments 3  times so I want to save my  comments to share  my test results with you guys. I am still sick and almost convinced that I am HIV +. Doctors have done all kind of x rays, CT scans, ultrasounds. I am still getting up to 99F on and off fever. Stomach pain and scrotum pain is back after stopping doxocycline. I am now seeing infectious disease specialist and he has ordered below tests for me and I will receive results on Jan 16,2014 and this day will decide my future.
1. HIV 1 &2
2 Hep A,B,C
3. Syphilis
4.HSV or HPV can't remember

You guys are doing great job by helping people like me so when I get my results back, I want to let other people know what problem was causing those symptoms which came right after intercourse. This might help other people too who are having same symptoms.

I am having few more questions to ask if you don't mind please.

1. The girl, I had sex with, was having small red rashes around here vagina area and she never let me able to see there as most of the sex was doggy style(sorry for language but no other way to explain). I am convinced that she had some other STD. What do you guys think in this case? Is it easy to contract HIV if she is having other STDs?
Is she  definite HIV+ having other stds?

2. While doing sex. I precum little bit so I removed that condom and used new one. Both condoms were intact and never broke. Do you see any problem during this act?

3. If this is not HIV, can I get some other stds using condoms?
4. If my skin came in direct contact with her vaginal area where she had those red rashes, what are the chances of getting HIV?

I never had these kind of problems in my life. I am pretty sure I contracted some stds so I am now scared and waiting for test results.

Thanks again for all your help & support

All of your questions involve asking about symptoms and it is useless guessing about what is causing them . The only way to know if you are infected with HIV or an STD is to test at the appropriate time .

You did not have a risk for HIV when you had protected sex or changed a condom

You had protected intercourse and if this is your only concern you need not fear you have contracted HIV in this situation .

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Although you do not need to test for HIV for this specific incident , anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

You were 100% correct and I must salute you!

My HIV/Hep(A,b,c) and syphilis results came back negative today. Although I still sick after 2 months, but it is not due to HIV.

Now, I have one last question for you. I have done HIV 1/o/2 antibodies test at 53rd day since my last exposure. Are these results conclusive? Do I have to go get tested again after 3 months? Please help!

Thanks for helping people like me. May God bless you!

You did not have a risk to begin with so of course its negative . You do not have HIV and you do not need to test again over this no risk incident . Now go do something fun and forget about this . Best wishes .

3 month update

Hi Jeff... Hope you are doing well... I am providing 3 months update here. Even though you guys mentioned my hiv tests result will be negative after 8 week of testing, but doctors made me scared to death so I did ora quick today, past 95 days and it came back negative.

Note*: I was sick because of cytomegalovirus. This virus causes all ARS symptoms (rash, fever, swollen glands, tummy pain ..etc). I am still sick because doctor mentioned CMV sickness takes more than 3 months before someone  fully recover. The reason why I am posting here because I want to let other people know who are having similar symptoms like me and thinking they may be HIV positive. I traveled out of country and while coming back to US, I caught CMV virus and unfortunately I had sexual encounter at same time which made me believe that I accquired hiv.
