feeling terrible
« on: December 30, 2013, 11:52:27 am »
hi,

I had sex with a prostitute last week, and it was something I shouldn't have done. I wore a condom, and unprotected cunnilingus on her. In the very next day, I got flue and some muscular pain. I have some doubts, because I shaved my genital area (no visible cuts were there) the day I had sex and another thing is, I got a mouth ulcer before. Anyway it got disappeared after 48hrs. but still I feel so bad and I'm so worried about my stupidity. As I know, it's not a common thing to infect with hiv when I was protected. however, my situation is bit different as I explained. Please advise. thanks

You never had an exposure in the situations you've provided.

HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.

HIV is transmitted by;
Unprotected penetrative anal and/or vaginal sex
Sharing works with other IV drug users
Mother to child

hi all, one month and a week ago, I encountered with a CSW. she's from Thailand. she performed oral sex (with condom) and vaginal sex (with condom). After 20 mins, when I pulled out, I realized that the condom is broken and top is exposed. I'm not sure how long I was unprotected, but it should be less than 10mins for sure. After that we finished all and I asked her status, but she claims that she used condoms for all activities with her clients. This happened in middle east country, and I'm an expat too.
After 5 weeks, I did a blood test in my home country, and they did it for free. but they asked me to wait 1 week for the results. The problem is, Doctor never asked how long I've been exposed and what activities I've been involved. When I asked, do you have any documents for hiv infection, with condom protection and condom breaks, he said yes. he said that condom is for birth control and you are not protected from it. even there can be small holes due to production errors. He said I'm in very risk and should cancel my travel since I have to travel before the results come. but he promised me to keep the privacy of my reports and I can get it once I go back. I can live with hiv, but how can I face to society and my family. that's what I'm worrying now. I don't know who to believe, and what to do. please give any advise on this. should I believe what my doctor said ?

PS: I have being with CSW two times (more than 6months ago), all protected, no breaks but doubt about condom production errors. and I also posted here regarding oral problem I had.

Please only post in this one thread no matter how long between visits or the subject matter . You can find this thread by going to your profile and selecting show own post and it will take you here . It helps us to help you when you keep all your thoughts or questions in one thread and it helps other readers to follow the discussion. Additional threads will be merged.

You did have a risk and can test at 6 weeks past any possible exposure and again at 3 months to confirm the results. This is the window period to assure you get a reliable and conclusive result . As for what your doctor said about condoms ... Condoms do not get small holes and are designed so that when they fail you notice, they shred or break apart.
An intact condom means you did not have a risk.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI.Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence .

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

sorry for posting a new topic.
btw, have you ever seen an incident which is ended up with hiv positive after a condom break, as my doctor claims he got such incidents documented. ? (he's in gov STD clinic, so he might have all country hiv positive details).

How's my risk here ? is it high and will I be positive ? I'm scared now.

Nobody can tell you the level of risk you might have had and only testing can determine your status.  Jeff has given you the testing guidelines, so you can test and have a conclusive result.

The condom would have protected you until it broke. The risk is lower for the insertive partner and this was a single possible exposure. All of those facts make it more likely that you will test negative.

And I can't recall any situations when a condom broke which resulted in transmission occuring.

Good luck with your tests.
