Confused need help in figuring out my situation
« on: November 30, 2013, 07:34:51 PM »
Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and here is my story in short.  I had possible exposure of HIV on July 8th.  (had sex with escort - no condom)  Couple of days after that incident, I took 4 Zythromax thinking I had clamadia and after that my tongue turned white and I fell sick (flue like symptoms).  I got tested negative for STDs and HIV multiple times.  I had a negative rapid HIV test done as late as last week.  I am not sure what's going on with me.  My CD4 and CD8 counts were good only thing that was out of ordinary was my WBC was below the range.

I am having various kind of symptoms...mostly related to my head and my eyes.  I sweat more than normal.  Any idea if this could be HIV?  I went to ID doctor too about a month ago and he said it's not HIV.  My eye are turning red almost every night...I am also losing hair and eye lids.  I was diagnosed with Empty Sella Syndrome and taking medicine for it.  But, still afraid that I might have HIV.  I am itching a lot and shaking a lot when hungry.  When I am itching...it leaves red mark on my hand (or place where I am scratching).

I am very confused and clueless as far as what I have.  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

If the exposure in July was your only concern then you need not worry because you have tested negative at the appropriate time .

The average time to seroconversion is 22 days. Most who are infected will test positive by 6 weeks. For various reasons a small number will take longer and that is why we follow the CDC recommendation to test at 3 months for a conclusive negative result.

If you are sick see your doctor again because its not HIV .

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED HIV TESTING AT THIS TIME for this incident that you have already tested conclusively HIV negative for , anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

I keep feeling weaker and weaker every day.  I still am not testing positive, but I am feeling I am infected.  My Testosterone level was the first thing that was low ever since the incident and I am having lot of trouble with my eyes.  My eyes are also little crossed now which I am not sure the reason for.

So, since it's been over 4 months of my situation is it 100% clear that I don't have HIV?  I tested negative for all the STDs as well...this was last tested 2 months ago.  Should I get another test done on STD?  Is it possible that since I was in great shape HIV isn't able to infect me just yet and it's working it's way?  I appreciate your quick response to this.

You are reliably HIV negative.

HIV does not require a "weak" body in order to infect. Your physical strength and fitness is of no import insofar as HIV is concerned.

I am sorry you are feeling poorly. I hope you are able to work with a doctor to find a cause and treatment for your condition. It is absolutely NOT HIV.

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."
