Dentist visit a few months ago
« on: November 17, 2013, 03:41:08 pm »
I went to the dentist to get a really deep cavity filled, but the dentis took so long to see me because he was working with another patient.

When it was my turn the doctor wanted me to seat in the same place as the previous patient, but I pointed out there still was a lot blood all over the sink where you are supposed to wash your mouth.  He then relocated me.  However, I noticed while he was working on me that his facemask had a lot blood splashes!!!   Not super big, but it looked gross!

He injected some anaesthesia, but apart from that there was no blood from my side. He just drilled the old filling meterial out.  I'm worried because he worked on me using that facemask... it was for more than one hour! What if he touched that facemask before injecting me?  Should I be worried?  The blood splashes weren't that big, but still... there were plenty of them.

What worries me the most is my boyfriend, I could never forgive myself if I infect him with something :((  Please help!

Thanks in advance,
R

HIV is fragile and becomes damaged and unable to infect when exposed to oxygen due to small changes in temperatures and PH levels . You would not have had a risk for HIV in this situation from having your tooth filled or from the anesthesia .

I would definitely find a new dentist if I were you , many conditions other than HIV can be transmitted in that manner and are much easier to contract , hepatitis is one of them at the top of the list .

Rest assured you didn't have a risk for HIV in this instance though .

Thanks a lot, Jeff!!!  I guess I should get tested for Hep C tho... I'll also get a HIV test (peace of mind) but it really helps to read what you wrote.  I'll find a new dentist, I hope I didn't catch Hep C from this :(   I'll never go there again!

Tremmie, I've deleted your most recent entry which you put into the Spanish AM I INFECTED. It was simply a repeat of your earlier entries for which you received a response here. It is a rule of this site that members only post in the same thread and not start new ones. Since you began in the English language forum that is where you should be posting. You don't get different answers by using another language.

The answers you received previously still apply to your situation.
