While gum disease is not endemic to HIV positive people, the onset and severity can be influenced by a severely compromised immune system. When you get your first labs and numbers back you will have more information to take to your dentist, who can formulate a plan to help you overcome gum disease.

I had a friend who decided not to disclose his HIV status to his dentist. He went through a med-free period, and his CD4s dropped dramatically and his viral load was very high. He ended up having to get every single tooth removed at age 28.

I would not sweat it at the moment, as you have bigger fish to fry. But when youget your numbers and hopefully meet with your doctor again be sure to mention it. Hopefully your doctor can even refer you to an HIV knowledgeable dentist.

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."

Nice to meet you snicole   :)

I can tell you from my experience that INFLAMMATION   will cause you to loose teeth .
My dentist did not know I was HIV POZ , I spent thousands to save my teeth . Looking back , He had to have known what was causing my issues !
when your T-Cells go up to normal ,Not knowing what they are ?
You will find your mouth to much improved !  But do not wait , I lost half my teeth  :(
