Fall semester at college
« on: June 18, 2013, 08:46:59 PM »
I am almost done with my schedule for fall semester.  I have one more class to pick and thought I would get your guys opinion on it.

I have to take a philosophy class.  My choices are either Religion or Ethics.  What do you guys think about either one.  Has anyone had either one and did you like it or not, and why?

I am getting my Associates in Human Services.

Religion is interesting but I think Ethics would be most applicable to your field, in fact I'm surprised it is not required.

^^ This. An employer would find your having take Ethics a bit more appealing than Religion... not to discount religion. It just rarely has a place in the workplace.

I took Business Ethics as a required class when completing my undergraduate Business Administration degree.  I took Religion and Philosophy as an elective class.  I enjoyed the Business Ethics class more.

I took Ethics in college in conjunction with my pre-med degree, it was an interesting class, you learn a lot about different scenarios and how to deal with them in a proper manner or how Ethics comes into play with the decisions stuff like Euthanasia and etc.

Ethics.  But the Religion class might easily be about ethics, as well. Is it history of religion or really philosophy?  Ethics for your career. Religion, for life and big questions.

Ethics was a required course for me to get my AAB in human resource management.  I then completed my BBA at a Christian University where numerous religious courses were mandatory.

When you mention taking a religion class, that's pretty broad.  I took religion courses ranging from reading the entire Bible and time lining it, to the philosophy of Christianity and then on to a course where all religions were compared to Christianity.  OH YEAH, one course was a Christian ethics course. ;D

Best of luck.

I had to take ethics for my undergrad degree in psych and it was helpful.  It can add a balance to decisions that have to be made with the field you're majoring in.  That would be my choice.

Ethics are worked into a lot of other classes.  I have taken both, however I think understanding different religions would be helpful in any job

I took world religions.
