Raped, infected and scared
« on: June 12, 2013, 06:36:01 pm »
Said it all in the title, I met someone online, took me back to his when I got there he tied me up and made sure I couldn't leave, he covered my face and raped me, I wanted to leave but every time I got up he pushed me down, I haven't been diagnosed yet but I'm ill with all the symptoms, I just wanna get on my meds because I'm losing weight fast and I'm barely eating.

I guess I'm just scared mostly because I'm alone and don't have anyone to tell me it's gonna be alright, I spend most my days crying and thinking about suicide, which I know is pathetic but that's how I'm feeling in all honesty

Hi Lonely boy . I moved your post into Am I Infected where it belongs , please post all of your questions here in this thread and do not start another . Please read the welcome thread , I am removing one of your questions so you get to ask 2 follow up questions .

I assume there were no condoms used in the assault so unfortunately you are going to have to test . If its been within 72 hours you can go to the emergency room and get PEP . PEP is a two or three drug combo that is very effective at preventing HIV infections if taken within 72 hours .

If its been longer than 72 hours you will need to wait 6 weeks to test and then again at 3 months to confirm the results .

Either way you choose I urge to report this to the police and get a checked out for all other stds you may have been exposed to .

I wish I'd worded this differently because it sounds like I don't have HIV, I do.

It happened May 5th so it's too late for the 72 hour drug thing.

I wanted to report him Jeff but he threatened and blackmailed me.

The only way to know your status is to test , if you haven't tested then you can not conclude that you are HIV positive .

You only have one more question unless you would like to buy a subscription so please include all the pertinent information so I can help you .

Did you have an HIV test done at 6 weeks ? .

Symptoms are not specific to HIV and could be from anything so there is no use discussing them .

Lonely,

It's not surprising that you're losing weight if you're depressed, suicidal and not eating. It's also not surprising that you're feeling poorly after what you've been through. Rape is a terrible ordeal.

People don't suddenly start losing loads of weight due to hiv so soon after infection - so your weight loss is NOT down to hiv, regardless of your actual hiv status. It's down to your (understandable) depression and the depression causing you to not eat.

Not even the most brilliant hiv specialist in the world can diagnose hiv going by symptoms alone - and neither can you. Neither symptoms nor even the lack of symptoms will ever tell you a single thing about your hiv status. ONLY testing at the appropriate time will.

The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days.

A six week negative must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change.

This weekend will be six weeks since the assault. Ring your local GUM (sexual health) clinic today and find out if you need to make an appointment, or if you can just drop in next Monday to get checked out. As Jeff told you, you need to test for all the other STIs as well.

You really may not even be hiv positive - your symptoms are all more likely being caused by the trauma you've gone through. You have to go test (and test confirmed positive) to get on treatment anyway, so go do it at the earliest opportunity next week.

I strongly suggest you also go to The Survivors Trust website where you can find rape counselling services in your area. Scroll down the page and towards the bottom you'll see a map - also read through the text under the heading Find Services, next to the map. There are several links within the text that you may find helpful.

Your local GUM clinic may also know about services that the TST aren't aware of, so ask at the clinic as well. Be completely honest with the people at the clinic. They're there to help you, not judge you.

Please contact a service near you. You don't have to go through this alone and you are NOT alone - 3 in 20 men in the UK have been affected by sexual violence (and I'm sure that number is higher locally in urban areas like London or Manchester).

You need to do two things - arrange for testing at your local GUM, and get in touch with an organisation near you through The Survivors Trust.

I'm alone and don't have anyone to tell me it's gonna be alright

Lad, you ARE gonna be alright. Most definitely from an hiv point of view, regardless of a positive or negative test result. I'm also in the UK and I know you'll get good treatment if - IF - you are poz.

You'll also be alright if you reach out to counselling services available so you can work through the trauma of being raped. It may take some time, but you can get through this and get on with your life.

By the way, going by the 92 in your username, you're probably 20-21 years old. I'm old enough to be your mum, and I want you to know that if you were my son, I'd tell him the same things I've told you. I'd also give him a big hug so... ((((((LonelyBoy92))))))

Hang in there, access the services you need (both physical and mental health wise), and you WILL be alright. Trust a mum, ok?

HIV negative at 72 days, going for my 3 month test in 9 days
« Reply #5 on: July 27, 2013, 09:22:39 am »
The last test I had was the 20 minute finger prick test at 72 days, the result was still non-reactive but I have my final 90 day (3 month test) in just 9 days...

I'm really scared the result will be positive and I'm terrified to get tested, does anyone know how likely it is for my test to change from non-reactive to reactive in this space of time ?

You have been advised to keep all your post in this thread already , so do not start another . If you have trouble finding your post go to your profile and select show own post and it will direct you here .

The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days.

Your test in 9 days isn't going to change so you can relax and stop worrying .
