Hello to all + Lab Results
« on: May 29, 2013, 07:01:14 PM »
So I have lurked for a while thought I would join in the party.

I was diagnosed in November 2012 and started Atripla in January 2013. Really amazed at the results: I have gone from viral load of over 240,000 to UD in three months and my CD4 has risen from 202 to 430.

Haven't told anyone yet and not really planning to for a little while at least. Worried that the average person (my friends and family included) don't know enough about the disease to properly comprehend that I am not dying etc. After all, I can never take it back once I've told them. Also I have put my mum through such a hard time the last few years and I feel like it would be just another disappointment for her.

Anyway I seem to be coping pretty well. I scare myself reading sometimes about some of the more 'weird and wonderful' consequences that can befall us being carriers of this infection. Despite myself I just researched CMV and did not like what I read. Still, no point in burying one's head in the sand I suppose.

Love to all and take care.

Hey Tommy;

Welcome to the forums.  It seems like you have a pretty good handle on your situation, and it is good to hear that your numbers are doing so well. I understand your reluctance to disclose, concerns with the consequences, etc. - I have the same feelings.

Again, welcome and thanks for posting,

Welcome here!  Great news that your meds are working so quickly.  I was diagnosed this past July, and also read soooo much those first couple of months.  Had to take a break, and now just look up things once in a while.  I was too focused and am learning to still live my life and realize I can't stop the things that will happen to me...I will deal with the problems as they arise.

I told several family members and friends as soon as I found out.  Everyone has been great and supportive.  My friends are so good to check on me.  I decided that if someone couldn't handle it, that it's their problem.  I have always been a listener to everyone else's issues, and I decided that I needed support now.  I refuse to live in shame and fear.  Best of luck to you! :)
