How will be the hiv treatment or cure in next 5 years?

I removed your thread from the Research forum into the Living forum, which is the more appropriate place for your discussion.

The research forum is a place for people to discuss research news that can be backed up with links to studies and articles. Yours is more of a question - and a very general question at that.

There are new treatments in the pipeline and you can learn about some of them in our Treatments pages.

While we're getting closer to a cure, we're still a long way off. You can read studies about various hopeful routes to cures in the Research forum. But please don't start threads in the Research forum unless you're linking to and discussing a particular cure (or studies about newer drugs). Please also make sure there isn't a thread already discussing whatever cure/treatment you want to discuss.

I have to ask - are you hiv positive yourself? Because if you're not, you should not be posting in forums that are meant for hiv positive people only. If you're not hiv positive, the only forums you should be posting in are the Am I Infected?, Someone I Care About, and to a certain extent, the Off Topic forum. Keep in mind that the Off Topic forum is ONLY for subjects that have nothing to do with hiv.

Make sure you read the Welcome Thread that is stickied to the top of most of our forums before you post in those forums.

Thank you for your cooperation.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Hard to tell exactly, as with all drugs any treatment that is being developed has to go through a long clinical trial process.

To put it in perspective, say a company come up with a drug which is promising in lab tests. To put it through clinical trials, will cost about 1Bn, and the succes rate of this is down in the single figures. About 8% of drugs that go through phase 1 trials will make it to market.

Realistically speaking, it can be 20 years from discovery to commercial production.

The costs for drug manufacture are truly staggering, and few people appreciate how difficult it is, and what regulations are in place. I work for a pharmaceutical company so I know how difficult even making the active compounds can be.

From what I can gather, the future of HIV treatment is in peptide technology. Peptides are just amino acids joined together to make a peptide/protein which are basically the building blocks in the body.
