need help and advise
« on: October 09, 2012, 02:06:20 AM »
Hi guys,
just want to hear your opinion about my problem.
had hepatite B last summer 2011, then diagnosed HIV 10 month ago (nice surprise at New Year).
23.01.2012 - CD4 - 494, VL 268 328
23.04.2012 - CD4 - 559, VL 115 456
13.08.2012 - CD4 - 492, VL 638 869
27.09.2012 - CD4 - 480, VL 865 888
I'm living in Kiev, Ukraine. Unfortunately we have so many people with HIV here - it's a huge problem.
I don't trust our medicine and make consultation (and make analyses) in Zurich. My professor say that I need to start therapy, but I'm so scary about it. If I start it - it's for all my life  :( :(
When I receive my first result I was glad that have so many CD4 and thinking about live 2-3 year with same result and then start therapy. I know some people who live 4-5 years with average VL 100 000-200 000 and CD4=450-500. But in my case in just 6 month VL make huge jump.
So my question - why its happend, so rapidly?
What kind of new generation of therapy usually use in USA? I will try to find it in Zurich or across the EU.

P.S. Sorry for my bad English

If your doc says it is time to start meds, it is time. The sooner you start, the easier it is on your body to maintain your CD4 levels and keep your VL undetectable.

Why has it happened so rapidly? Who knows. HIV progression is unique to the individual. Just be glad you are keeping track of its progression and doing what is necessary to keep yourself healthy.

Reality is frequently inaccurate.

Your CD4 counts are not too bad but your viral load numbers are pretty high.  If your doctor recommends starting meds then I would go with your doctors advise.

Hi Andrey, welcome to the forums.

Rather than waste time looking at the US guidelines when you're living in Kiev, you'd be better off going to the European AIDS Clinical Society website as the guidelines found there will be the guidelines your doctor (both in Kiev and Zurich) will go by. The guidelines are also available in Russian there and may be easier for you to understand. Good luck!

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
