I don't want to develop diabetes
« on: September 28, 2012, 03:20:36 pm »
Hi All,

I haven't talked about this with my doctor, just got my new lab results. They read:

Cholesterol : 133 mg/dL
Triglycerides : 75 mg/dL
HDL : 36 mg/dL
LDL : 82 mg/dL
Glycosylated Hemoglobin : 5.86%

Honestly I am concerned about my HDL and Glycated Hb...
Are they really bad ? should I accept I'll eventually  get diabetes (5.86%)?

I am scared, I exercise a lot... this is not fair...

Hey Peer_gynt,

First of all, I would kill for your lipids.

Your overall cholesterol and triglycerides are positively amazing.

Do you ever eat?  ;)

Seriously, they look great. As for your HDL, it could be better, but the only way to raise it is to exercise.

When I say it could be better, I am basing it on the usual recommendations. In your case, your other numbers are so low, that it may be just fine for you.

At one point, many years ago, my HDL was as low as 19, which is definitely not good. Your are in far better shape than I was.

Your hemogrlobin AIC, which I think is the test to which you are referring, is at the high end of normal.

If you are concerned about it, I would continue to monitor it, watch you intake of sugars and carbohydrates and get regular exercise.

I also would talk to your doctor about your concerns to see what he/she recommends.

A couple of things you could do is to make sure you diet is a healthy one, which I am guessing would be in the affirmative.

Try to steer clear of empty carbs, and instead eat more veggies, lean meats and fish, low fat or fat free dairy, and, once again, get at least 30 minutes of exercise or activity each day.

Hope this helps.

HUGS,

Mark

Aren't these all relatively in normal range? Why are you worrying?
