When should I start treatment?
« on: September 24, 2012, 03:30:32 pm »
My sister just picked up my first set of meds today from my hometown. (I am currently in Canada in Quebec doing my masters but I am from Ontario. Quebec wont pay for my meds because I am an Ontario resident, so my sis is picking them up and mailing them to me, Here in Canada the provinces are responsible for delivering health cares services).

I am thinking I want to wait till I get two or more months supply to build up a reserve just so I have a backup. I am recently diagnosed with my March 2012 count CD4 400 21% VL 36000, and my Aug count at CD4330 21% VL 36000. Can I wait three months to start? Of course this is strictly my decision and alhtough I will do three months of damage I am sure it wont be that much? In August my doc gave me a years worth of lab requisition forms and passively said I should start ASAP but no emergency within the next 6 months. Since I have almost one month winter break in Dec it makes sense to complete this term and start the meds in Dec so I can deal with any side effects and not stress about school?

Any feedback?

Why in the world would you need that large of buffer when you live somewhere that provides medications? I can understand maybe having a week or two, but only because of the "sister mailing meds" issue.

Most people are able to start their medications without interruption of work and/or school. I don't see any reason to procrastinate until Christmas break.

Thanks Miss Philicia. Maybe I will wait till she gets the second bottle which will be in about three weeks. Just a bit of a side note, ironically speaking, here in Liberal Ontario I have to pay a detuctible for the meds. It is still very cheap but it costs me 1000 a year. In Conservative Alberta they are completely free no questions asked. Go figure!

I have never thought the US sucks. I worked with Americans for ten years and they were SOME OF THE BEST PEOPLE I have had the pleasure to meet. I don't really subscribe to the idea that countries or their people can suck. However, a country's political system is a whole different story and I am sure if you ask most people regardless of political affiliation, they are displeased with thier country's political system.

You can probably wait a little bit before starting to take your medicines.
As long as your CD4 level is higher than 400 and above 20% you are still healthy and will not have any problems with oportunistic desease.

But once you start taking them, you should never stop! Until cure found ;) of course
