Well first off just calm down and take a deep breath, no matter what everything is going to be OK. Really it is.

The truth is you dont know if you have infected your partner so dont jump to conclusions with that. Have you told your partner yet about you testing poz? If so how did that go? Clearly, he is going to need to be tested as soon as possible.

As far as you, there is no reason you cannot live a normal healthy life as an HIV+ individual. Listen to your doc, take your meds and you will be just fine. Promise. Do you have an appointment set up with an Infectious Disease doctor yet?

I'm 4 years poz and I can tell you I have a very fulfilling and happy life. Sure it's a bit tough right at first, but it gets easier as you go along. So hang in there and dont be thinking stupid things like Suicide right now, that's not an answer to the problem.  ;)

Hi Latriste,

Welcome. Sorry you're here but glad you found the site.

I completely agree with Willy. Try to be calm until you have the facts.

You have a lot on your mind right now so try to focus on the basics:

eating, sleeping, and staying physically active. Things will improve.

You can trust all of us on that count!

Em

Hi Latriste,

Like Willy and Em said, calm down and relax. Your life is not over at all. You've only hit a roadblock.

But importantly, have you had a western blot test to confirm your HIV status ? You Can only know you are surely +ive if you have had this test. Don't jump to conclusions before that.

Millions have been though what you are currently experiencing. It gets better and life goes on. Promise.

Hugs!!

Latriste, you need to have your positive antibody result confirmed with a Western Blot test to rule out a false positive result. False positive results can and do happen and various things can cause them, such as pregnancy, underlying and possibly not yet diagnosed autoimmune illnesses, and sometimes they just happen, particularly on rapid tests.

Until you've had your result confirmed (or ruled out) by a Western Blot test, you cannot be considered to have been diagnosed with hiv.

Get your confirmatory test done and let us know what happens. If you continue to feel suicidal, get yourself to the nearest hospital and let someone know how you are feeling. It would be silly to kill yourself over hiv and even sillier if you turn out to have had a false positive result.

If by antigen test you mean the p24 antigen portion of a fourth generation hiv test, you still need to have the result confirmed with further antibody and Western Blot testing.

If you have tested positive on the p24 antigen test and it is a true positive, this will mean that you would have been infected within the last two or three weeks before the test was performed.

The p24 antigen is only present very early on during primary infection and disappears when enough antibodies are present to trigger a reactive (positive) result on the antibody test.

There are no short-cuts to hiv testing for either a positive or a negative result.

Please get your results confirmed.

 Latriste07,

You're in shock, afraid and feeling isolated. I remember those feelings well even though that happend to me in 1985 and I was visiting another country when I found out. That's 27 years ago. My life ain't over and yours isn't either.

Get some counselling help to get you through this tough time. Your doctor can put you in tough with counsellors who are experienced with this situation. Do NOT try to manage all this all on your own.

Big hugs
