Want Some Thunder?
« on: April 25, 2012, 01:12:33 AM »
Thunder Over Louisville is the kick-off to the Kentucky Derby.  It is the largest fireworks show in North America.  It includes an airshow.  Not sure if it is the biggest airshow.  When we have nice weather, you can expect 800,000 lining both sides of the river.  It is a huge bar night after.  We usually go out after, because traffic is so bad to get out of downtown.  It is funny to see all the straight folks come into the gay bars and waiting for them to figure out where they are.  If you're ever in the Louisville area the 3rd Saturday in April, I highly recommend it.  Derby is always a good time, too.

Here's Thunder with a video I shot of the fireworks finale.

We ended up in the gay section.  Well, except for the two guys you hear talking about mobile phones or something.  I kept hoping they would shut up.  You can see two friends of mine, who are a couple.  I thought it was sweet how they embraced each other and weren't afraid to do it with some rednecks around.  Btw, you should lower the volume a tad.

awesome! I've always love fireworks. And airshows!

When I was in Ohio, the city skips the big 4th of July fireworks for a small event because they put all the firepower into the big Football Hall of Fame Festival fireworks in August. I have way too many pix and vids of fireworks after all these yrs. LOL For the airshows, my last late partner (a big ol' gearhead LOL) and I used to go up to Cleveland for the shows at the Burke lakefront airport there on Lake Erie.

one thing I always get a grin from now is all those phones taking video these days. :D Having had digital cameras since they first came out, I've been the only one around me recording and snapping photos of most events. Nowadays everyone's caught up to me (though I'm still using the digicam and don't have a smart phone ::) ) and there are a thousand pix on FB anymore within minutes after an event.
