newly diagnosed and filled with soo many emotions
« on: March 23, 2012, 01:43:51 PM »
hi everyone. My name is nasha and I am newly diagnosed with being HIV positive. I found out after asking to be tested for all the STD's after recently becoming sexually active. My boyfriend and I have been safe but I wanted to make it a point to get used to the habit of getting tested I guess. Anyway, my doctor called me while I was on winter break visiting my family and when i got back to the city my bf and I went to see what was going on. My doctor informed me that I was HIV positive. I was in EXTREME shock.  I later that day found out that I've had HIV my whole life and it was transmitted to me during birth from my birthmom (I'm adopted btw). All this happened about 2 months ago and it's all still really fresh. I think I am doing ok. I have my good days and I have my bad days. I've had alot of tests done so far and I should be starting treatment soon but yea...it's been alot. One minute I'm a 23 yr old senior about to graduate and the next I have to drop everything and  come up with a new plan and pick up the pieces. I hope to meet new people on this forum and gain more support hopefully : )

Good evening Nasha and welcome to the forums. I am sorry you had to find out about your status but if you look in it at hindsight at least you are on the road to  keeping yourself healthy and living a long life. Live your life as you did before you found out, that 23 yr old senior with a BF. Nothing needs to change other then perhaps going to the doctor a few times a year and managing the virus with a proper treatment which you and your doctor will decide. You are still you and no one or no virus will change that. It is completely manageable and you will live your life doing so. Stay strong and keep your head up. Oh and Congrats on your graduation you should be proud of yourself!  ;)
