Air Marshals Gone Wild?
« on: February 08, 2012, 03:26:14 AM »
Tonight, ABC News reported disturbing behavior reported to them from current and former air marshals.  There is also a Congressional investigation due to be released this week.

In the report, they show a picture of a marshal fast asleep on a plane with a loaded gun.  The pic was taken by a fellow marshall.  They also show a picture of one office's version of the game show, Jeopardy, that they would play.  The categories were racists, sexists, and homophobic.  They say the game was meant to humiliate black, female, and gay marshalls.  One marshal committed suicide, and that game is believed to have played a major factor.  For gay men marshalls, they had a category called, "Pickle Smokers".  For blacks, "Thugs".  For lesbians, "Ellen".

I'm sure the majority conduct themselves in the most professional manner.  But, this highlights what happens when you give a group too much power without enough oversight.  The only problem with the air marshals in the past that I can remember was about marshals required to dress in business attire, when everyone else on the plane was in t-shirts and shorts flying to vacations.  They felt this caused them to stand out.
