Planning Counsil request
« on: September 15, 2006, 02:20:56 AM »
Dear Forum Friends,

After a two month absense from Planning Counsil, sub-committees and task force activities, I did attent the meeting last night to vote of the funding issues at hand.

I was asked by the HIV Section Manager to be sure and attend the annual HIV Planning Retreat in November.  Of course I am going, this is the meeting that sets the tone for Planning Counsil activities for the next year, I was invited last year and at the time, had not taken my oath of office w/the Board of Supervisors yet.  The focus of this years retreat will be establishing greater public awareness of funding issues and the need to get outside support to maintain our local services.  Since the Title I funding in Sonoma, Sacramento and Santa Clara Counties is anticipated to be lost in the next three years, this is going to be quite a project.

I told them that with their support, I would be willing to start a PR Firm in Santa Rosa, Marin or San Francisco and the lender from the vineyard offer will be willing to loan start-up capital.  This is too big a job for volunteer labor, they understand that and let the negotiations begin.  I found a business broker in Petaluma who features unadvertised busineses for sale and have asked about existing Ad agencies offered in the Northbay Counties.

Living with HIV is such an ongoing issue.  In order to get our needs met, we have to be on top of every situation and not only be as good as the "healthy" person, but be better than.  As a person living with AIDS, I have been trying to return to work since 1998, they love me as a volunteer but, no comapny (including the County of Sonoma, the City of Napa, and hundreds of firms from San Diego to Eureka) has not seen the need to pay me for my services.

Having been a founding member of the Re-Entry Task Force, later changed to Community Reconnect, I have almost a year of trying to develop programs to benefit those of us living with the disease to become more independent.  That program was funded last night by a vote from the Commissioners.  We have the funding to begin training local ASO's to include Reconnect as part of their services.  Sonoma State University has applied for a larger grant through the NIH to establish a permanent program in Sonoma County.  Response on this grant is anticipated in Februray.

In my discussion with the HIV Section Manager, I told her that if they would provide me with the means to get the start loan or purchase loan approved, I would be hiring employees from the Reconnect member roster.  Those means being a large enough client to get the lender and the sellers attention.  With the expected loos of $1.4 million per year in RWCA Title I funding, they have become a large enough client to get that attention.  With a little over a month before the planning retreat, I have the time to redesign my web site www.Commission-on-AIDS.org and dust off my portfolio.  Have the best day
