Practical help, anyone?
« on: June 11, 2011, 01:02:08 pm »
I found out just over 2 months ago that my boyfriend of 3 years is HIV+. He had known his status at the time we met, and only told me, after a row, where I accused him of keeping something from me. (Women's intuition, huh?) I'll be honest, I was extremely annoyed and upset with him at first. He had for the most part been very very careful with me, but I could remember a couple of occasions where he hadn't, but mostly, I was annoyed that he had kept it from me for so long, despite us having a number of conversations about sexual health. I was tested at the 1st opportunity, and thankfully was negative, my retest is next month, although my clinic are confident I will have nothing to worry about.
I love my boyfriend very much, and although we now have a few issues to work through (mainly around trust) I am committed to spending the rest of my life with him.
This is where I need your help!!!
Although there are things I can learn from him and his doctor - I am going with him to his next appointment - There are still things I want to try and understand at my own pace, and for myself. Because we live in different NHS trusts, we attend different clinics. Both sets of Specialists have been fantastic, but already have given us slightly conflicting information about safe practices / need for my retesting etc. The internet is a total mindfield - which are the best sites for sound advice? My clinic even suggested that the NHS site was pretty useless!
I would be interested to find out about support networks for other people in my situation, as well as how best to support my partner. Since I found out, my partner is also really keen that someday, we start a family. I have read lots about the Swiss Statement, but would love to hear from anyone who has gone through this, and what sorts of cost / timings / and any potential side effect occurred as part of the pre-exposure meds.
I probably have a million and one more questions, and will be grateful for any replies.

Thank you x

Just wanted to say thanks for the PMs. I can read them, but not reply, didn't want anyone to think I'm ungrateful!
The advice and support has been lovely. Thank you x
