looking for advice on Rilpivirine
« on: May 25, 2011, 08:42:22 PM »
had a Dr appt today. i discussed with him the new one a day coming out. he said its due out in one a day/combined with truvada form in august. in two weeks he said it will be available in just the Rilpivirine and then you take truvada with it.
I'm currently on selzentry/truvada. I'm not complaining about taking 3 pills a day ,i m grateful for the advancements in drugs that are available now. but, I'm having a hard time remembering that second pill. had two episodes where i took it twice. i take a bunch of supplements at night. but say i don't get home until like 8 pm ,my second selzentry pill is due around 6:30. so i take the one in my wallet. but it requires notes in my car to take pill at 6:30 and other drag like circumstances. you all know what I'm talking about. so a one a day in the morning is very appealing to me. he said its very well tolerated, not supposed to cause lipo, wasting, face issues, lipids should remain fine.
what are your opinions on this new med?
is anyone switching to it from their current meds?
he did say atripla will still remain his choice for first line because its older and their are studies on it.
i chose to not take atripla because I'm a nut and it wouldn't work for me.

surf, there are other once-a-day combos out there. They may not all be one pill a day, but even though it involves more pills, you take them all at once. Reyataz, Norvir and Truvada is one that is Sustiva-free. That's the combo I plan to take when the time comes as I also need a once-a-day combo and I also will not take Sustiva.

Your doctor may be happy to switch you to the once-a-day Reyataz combo.

Are you aware that rilpivirine (aka Edurant) is in the same med family as Sustiva? I suggest you read our lesson on Edurant/rilpivirine so you have more information on it.

You can also read more about Reyataz in the med lesson section.

so dr emailed me today, got me excited and told me its the size of a tic tac ,the pill
no lipo issues during studies
no lipid issues
no grogginess (cns issues)
no liver issues
bascially as side effect as one would want.
so im beaming as i read this
then he says that it needs to be taken with a 500 calorie meal, hello pain in the ass that is
but i could deal
but the deal breaker was
if you have heart burn/acid reflux and our on meds for them, cant take this pill
well being that i m on the purple pill this drug is out for me.

though no one really knew why i had stomach issues two years ago, did the scope and such and said acid refulx which i believe is what they tell everyone when they dont really know. put me on nexium two a day.
but once i got dx'd with this shit, and took meds i ended up doing nexium once a day so i wonder really if my acid reflux was really untreated hiv and not really acid reflux?.....

Why does Your Dr. want to skip the Selzentry (Maraviroc)? I take it for two years without any sideeffects as you read often here for Atripla or Truvada.
I think it is approved now for firstline therapy. You can take it once a day with Prezista/r or Reyataz/r, you have only two meds and no NNRTI or NRTI. Reyataz made me yellow eyes, but no problems with prezista for one year so far.
I think it is a very good Combo.

Side effect free is a strong statement

Comparative side effects with efavirenz after 48 weeks are in the 2nd table in this report:

There were fewer CNS side effects for rilpivirine arm - but not none - and also slightly better cholesterol results.
