Job issues
« on: September 13, 2006, 02:14:54 AM »
My company is going to be sold. I have had great benefits up to this point. Our new company yet to be names will most likely not have as good as benefits. I have been wanting to get out of the high stress demanding job I have for a while. Is now the right time...I think so. My questiom though, can I get in on the new companies enrollment when they take ove rwithout disclosure?

Hi CBP...

Sorry to hear you are going through a transitional period at work right now.  It's always difficult dealing with something like that.

As for not disclosing to the new company regarding health insurance, if you are in the US, by law, you do not have to tell a prospective employer of your status, nor are they allowed to ask you.  That said, with the new company, it all depends on their insurance coverage.  If the new company's coverage allows for "pre-existing conditions" then you shouldn't have a problem.

I hope the transition goes well, and that the new company will actually help make things better for you.

Good luck.

HI Cowboy--

I'm not a benefits expert, however if you do live the US, I'm almost positive (no pun intended) that the new company can not impose any pre-existing condition clauses on you (assuming you've been covered by your current company for at least a year).  They certainly can not ask you about your status and you need not say anything to them.
Once they give you info on your "new" coverage -- all you should have to do is check to make sure your current doctor(s) are on this plan.
Hope that helps.
