What the hell is going on ?!
« on: November 05, 2010, 10:12:25 am »
Hi everyone,

I used to be a regular in the "am I infected" forum given my OCD tendencies, but that is now going rather well.

However this morning I was at my family's home and went to check my e-mails on the computer when I noticed a huge guidebook on the table called "Living Healthily: a guide to people living with HIV"

Wow. I just zoned out for about five minutes and came to my senses.

There were markers in the parts about "aging populations" and "women and HIV".

I'm really not sure what this is about or what I should do...

Ben, it's totally up to you what you do. A lot depends on what sort of relationship you have with whatever family member you think might be positive. If you've always been close, you could mention you saw the book and you would like to be able to offer emotional/moral support if someone in the family is poz. If you're not close, it may be better to let them tell you when and if they decide to do so. After all, it's not really any of your business when you get right down to it.

And I hope this isn't going to kick your hiv paranoia back into overdrive. The ONLY way you'd be at risk for hiv infection from this family member is if you are having unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse with them. Please remember what you've learned about hiv transmission from your time in the Am I Infected forum.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Hi Ann,

Thanks for your support as usual. I hope things are well for you.

My partner raised a good point - my brother is studying psychology... My partner told me lots of his friends who took psychology had to get a book like that... considering the markings it's plausible...

And since my family is terrible at hiding things I think I would know by now, and if someone was trying to hide something they prolly wouldn't let this book lie around for all to see.

Will keep you posted.

Yeah false alarm. My brother was using the book for a presentation - just walked him preparing a powerpoint on it.
