Update on my dad
« on: August 30, 2010, 12:49:26 PM »
Hi All,  I just wanted to give you a quick update on my dad.  He has been on Atripla since July 6th and he is doing much better.  Just so you recall he is 67,  had severely wasted, was not eating, suffering from AIDS induced dementia with a viral load of 500000 and a CD4 cell count of 54.  He is now eating and shows no signs of dimentia,  and is able to fully swallow all of his pills.  His first labs have his viral load now as 26000!! My dad told me his CD4 was 500, but I think he was mistaken and it was 50 (his doc told him not to worry -his T cell count will go up as the virus continues to go down).   He was hospitalized once due to malnutrition/dehydration and low potassium,  but has bounced back really well.  My huge concern now is that my dad (being the stubborn man he is),  is refusing to come stay with me.  I live out of state (as do all my siblings),  and my dad doesn't have much of a social network where he lives.  I just flew home having stocked his fridge and I am checking on him daily,  but this is a daily worry,  but there is nothing I can do to change his mind right now anyway.  I want to thank you all - I have read most of the posts here since joining and they have helped me tremendously, thanks!

That's such great news. Maybe he'll come around and agree to  move but you should make sure he can access HIV meds in the new place. I guess he's on Medicare so it's probably fine, it's just that ADAPs in many states have waiting lists these days.
