Please help: very scared: ARS & Oral
« on: May 01, 2010, 06:40:58 PM »
Day 0: Had unprotected oral sex with another man, he did not ejaculate in my mouth but it was roughish
Day 6: Felt sore throat
Day 7: Sore Throat worse
Day 8: Went to Doctors, no strep. prescribed biaxin. Told her about my encounter, said doubtful it's not risky enough
Day 9: Fever of 99.9
Day 10: Really bad sore throat, fatigued, NO runny nose, fever of 99.8
It is now day 11. Still feel the same. Went to another doctor, that doctor said that my symptoms are not like ARS as its not bad enough and its on the earlier end. Also, that the risk is almost negligible. Gave me doxycyline

The advice you've received from your doctors is correct.

The risk of HIV infection arising from performing unprotected oral sex on a man without ejaculation is indeed negligible.

If you wish to be tested for HIV you should do so at Day 89 (ie 90 days from the sexual encounter). The result will be negative. Testing in this case is strictly for your peace of mind.

Your saliva contains over a dozen elements and proteins which form a very effective barrier to the transmission of HIV. You are worrying needlessly. As Matty has pointed out, getting tested is strictly for your peace of mind and not because you had a real risk.

You're welcome.

The only confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV are unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. Use condoms consistently for those activities and you will be well protected against HIV transmission.
