Glacial Milk anyone??
« on: August 10, 2009, 10:54:51 PM »
Hello Forum,

I read about this liquid supplement Galcial Milk.. looks pretty good except it also lists a bunch of herbs. I remember reading herbs don't mix well with antiviral meds (mine's atripla).. Are those herbs really conflicting?

Also - does any of the two look better than the other??

Hey About.
I'd say the citrus one edges out the black cherry flavor basically because of the sugar content.  It's a little high individually and would be even higher if you dosed several times a day.  Sugar is something that, if you're not worried about it now, you will be one day and perhaps soon.

As for the herbs.  I don't trust them regardless of any claims a product makes.  You just never know.

The vitamins you're probably looking for, too, can be found in Centrum Silver.  Costco sells a generic equivilent for a lot less.

It's always wise to think about the old adage, 'if it's too good to be true, it probably isn't.'

Could you fill in on what is your goal for using supplementation.

well nothing in particular.. just the 'usual' vitamins and minerals, perhaps also calcium and Omega.. I just heard good things about the Glacial Milk, but I was concerned about it also containing several herbs.. I'm not on Ritonavir, but I do take Sustiva (atripla) so I dunno how well they all interact.. perhaps if I take the Glacial Milk in the morning and the atripla at night - both will have a chance to clear out well before the other... Any thoughts??

My thoughts are you should eat well, fresh food, vegetables, good drinks, quality food, bio/organic if you can afford it,  and why bother with something industrial like this Glacial Milk?  If you want vitamin and mineral supplements, get them as pills. Or take a list of ingredients of Glacial Milk and ask an HIV specialist or a nutritionist what they think.  You can also research herbal interactions with your HAART but you probably wont find all the possible interactions or good research about many herbs.

they both contain milk thistle - HIV folk are advised to be cautious with milk thistle as it might muck around with the levels of the drugs in your system. however, i don't think there is a definitive answer on this one.

how bizarre - they even do a multivitamin range for pets. what a waste of time and money that could be better directed to feeding the millions of starving people around the world. On that basis alone, i would refuse to buy any product that this company makes.
