So Scared
« on: May 29, 2009, 01:27:52 AM »
So here is my story..I have been with my partner for 2 years and we broke up for a few months. During that time this was my risk. I went on a few dates with a man of an unknown status. We began to fool around and he put a condom on properly and was in me for maybe 15 seconds. I freaked out since I don't normally do this sort of thing. He pulled out and proped himself on me for a few minutes and we began to kiss again and he went inside again for about 15 seconds. I freaked out again and then we stopped completely. I did not see him remove the condom and he did not move around so much that it could have rolled off. I asked him if it was still on and he said yes. So that was my risk. If the condom did in fact fall off I would have been exposed to 15 seconds of unprotected sex or so with precum possibly. But I don't know if it did fall off, i'm just so scared.
This is where I began to get afraid. My partner and I got back together and we began to have unprotected sex again. We had both been tested together and everything prior to this. About 3 weeks after our last time we had sex he came down with a nasty cold which almost never happens. I didn't even think about my previous risk until this moment because it did not seem like it was anything until my partner became sick.
Could someone please tell me how big my risk was, I am so afraid that I have ruined my life and my partners life. I don't know if this sounds nuts, but I have a tendency to freak out over this sort of thing to the point where I had to go to therapy and get on anti anxiety medication. I don't know what to do. Please someone help..

You didn't have a risk for hiv infection. Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection. The only thing you've put yourself at risk for is guilty feelings.

If you can't put this no risk situation behind you, maybe it's time for therapy again.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

This is really all about fears and feelings and not the facts. The facts of the situation are that you had absolutely no risk for HIV transmission. Period.

Get on with your life and if you can't do that then follow Ann's suggest and get some professional help with dealing with the emotional issues.
