Trying to put together a Hetero group in NYC
« on: March 13, 2009, 02:04:04 PM »
Hi folks.....

Do you know any Hetero HIV+ folks?  One of my most difficult challenges has been to find a support and/or social groups in NYC for Hetero HIV+ folks.  For Hetero guys alone has been almost impossible.  I found one group that meets in GMHC, however, they meet in the afternoon, so if you work during the day, well you get the picture.
Also, to be honest, going into the GMHC center was in itself very alienating, that is what I personally have felt thru my experience thus far.  This forum being an exception.  So, I am going to tryy and put something together, if there is enough interest, I will take it further.

If you are a Pos Hetero Male or Female (can't be both....sorry ;) )  , please send me a PM your name and email address if you are interested in this.   NY area.

No offense, but this is a smaller place than you may think.  There's only a couple hundred posts per day and you asked for PM's (not posts) from only hetero New Yorkers.  So you were looking at a pretty small potential pool to recruit from in the first place.

Here's a few options with bigger pools.

There is a personals site here -- it actually allows people to list orientation and has many more profiles than there are members here.  You could set up a profile saying you are just looking for friends and email other straight NY'ers with profiles to see if there's interest in a social group.

Or you could try recruiting at the hetero support group you found.

Or you could try craigslist or similar sites.

Also here's a listing of social groups that has been posted before -- don't see anything germane to NYC, but it lists some of the others and you could ask them how they got things moving.

Good luck
