Feeling Numb
« on: January 27, 2009, 09:04:16 PM »
After being poz for 2 months now almost 3. I am not sure how I feel or not. I don't have to take
meds and i go back to my dr in march for my blood test. As far as changing my lifestyle i haven't
done much accept making sure that i use detection when having sex, and i don't have sex
that much anyway so that is not a problem. I eat, what i want to and i also drink and smoke cigs,
my question is should i stop drinking and smoking is that going to effect my hiv status like maybe speed
up something? other than my hiv i am healthy.

Hey Melloyellow,

I believe in doing anything and everything in moderation.

Maintaining your overall health will help you live longer and better, but you must enjoy it as you go along too.

Heavy alcohol abuse can affect your CD4 levels and a number of other things. If you are 100 pounds overweight, your health will be affected, but anyone's would.

Eat heartily, drink happily and enjoy, but do it in moderation with a bit of common sense.

Oh, almost forgot, have a little sex now and then. You ain't a priest.

I don't know necessarily that smoking will cause HIV progression.  If someone knows, they're welcome to chime in.

I'm struggling with trying to quit myself.  I quit for a few days, then smoke a cigarette or two.  There's a couple reasons I want to quit.  One is I have a hard time breathing just going from one room to the next.  Two is the continuous rising cost of cigarettes.  Of course, smoking isn't good for anyone.  If you decide to quit, good luck.  I would suggest using something to help you (i.e. patches, gum etc.).
I've never killed anyone, but I frequently get satisfaction reading the obituary notices.-Clarence Darrow
