Way to think outside the box!! Using social marketing and networking to reach out to at-risk youth populations!! Using peer to peer discussion instead of professionals and parents only to disseminate the information!!

Sounds interesting, and maybe this approach could work better than others. The fact is that the information and resource approach had not worked very well...

HIV prevention maybe could better work if we take note of what happens in the marketing of some kinds of products and services that need to be focused and personalized, in what they call "one to one".

It will mean information, resources and motivation (or the ability of the prevention message being convincent and felt as a "need" or a good thing) should be at reach for anyone just in the moment they may enter on risk of infection.

Until now, what we have been doing is reaching people with prevention messages in moments and circumstances not at all near or similar to those people will find themselves in the moment of having a potential risk of infection. In a school, in a young people meeting, or in a GLBT organisation, in a speech or a roleplaying session, everybody will be willing and openly friendly to the prevention messages, even those contrary to the use of condoms.

But, much of this same people, will have forgotten the most of the message, or misunderstood important parts of it, from that moment to the very moment they are in risk. If, at the very moment of the risk of infection they do not find a reinforcement of the message, and an easy access to means of prevention (condoms, syrings, safer sex strategies...) prevention simply will not work.

It is just like if someone phones you at home, at 3 in the morning, when you are deelply asleep -or having good sex- to sell you a niche in a cemetery and a life insurance... the message, evidently, will not be very stimulant...
