AFI's 10 top 10
« on: June 17, 2008, 11:22:20 PM »
I watched the American Film Institute's "10 Top 10" on CBS tonight; it ranked the top ten movies in 10 categories.   Guess which one won #1 Fantasy? Hint:  it involves flying monkeys and ruby slippers   ;D

It gave me a few suggestions for movies to add to my Que at Blockbuster Online... I know I have seen "Judgement at Nuremberg" but I can't remember it...also need to see "Lawrence of Arabia" again.

Alan, it doesn't surprise me at all that "Wizard of Oz" was #1.  I still love to watch it.

I'll never forget Lawrence of Arabia for 2 reasons.  I must have been like 11 or 12 when it came out.

One, Lawrence (Peter O'Toole) just fascinated me with those deep blue eyes and his hair.  I have green eyes so couldn't do anything about that but I did try to comb my hair like his.

Second, I'll never forget how thirsty I got. 99% of the film takes place in the desert and it runs well over 2 hours. I remember during the intermision I wanted a coke but my older brother refused to buy me one.  I had to wait in a long, long line at the drinking fountain.  I've never let my brother forget that and that was over 40 years ago~~

Robert, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who remembers things that happened at the movies (picture show, we called it) over 40 years ago...

We used to go on Saturday mornings; admission was 6 R.C. bottle caps.   They had drawings for things, like bicycles (which of course I never won).

One time my brother spilled my whole box of Red Hots and while I was digging around trying to 'find them', I made this girl in front of me drop her Chilly Dilly (we called them "Big Pickles") and she started crying....I got in trouble with the usher.   Remember ushers at movies?   Mean big people with flashlights...
