Trying to be safe, but need advice
« on: August 19, 2007, 08:57:29 PM »
Ok, so I met this girl on-line and we are planning on meeting tommarrow.  I'm pretty sure that things will turn sexual.  I have already decided that there is no way that I will have sex with her, protected or not.  I don't know this girl at all, except for trading emails a few times.

In terms of HIV how risky is it for me to receive oral sex from her?  How risky is it to perform oral on her?  How risky is it for other STD's?

Thanks for the advice and pardon my ignorance in this matter

NZ, this is an HIV specific site so we don't get into other STDs. Just as a general rule we recommend that anyone who's sexually active ought to regularly have a full STD panel done. That means at least annually and every six months is even better.

As for risk in relation to HIV, in the entire history of the epidemic there's never been a documented case of transmission to a guy via his getting a blowjob. As for giving oral to a woman, it's mainly theoretically risky. In the real world of HIV transmission just doesn't happen that way.

So what we're talking about in terms of risk is essentially is unprotected intercourse either vaginal or anal. As long as you are always wearing a latex condom for those activities you are covered literally and figuratively. Condoms provide very effective protection no matter whom you are with.
