HIV + HPV + Lump = Scared
« on: March 25, 2007, 03:06:58 AM »
Hello everyone,

I just need some place to play this out and hopefully get some support.

I'm HIV+, been so since late 2005. I take Kaletra and Truvada, have an undetectable viral load and tcells hanging out somewhere in the mid/high 300s.
Mid winter 2006 I found myself with HPV, and 3M's Aldara cleared the genital wart problem up.
I've also experienced a perianal abscess.

Finding myself usually on the receptive end of anal intercourse, I pay special attention to how that part of my body is doing. Lately, I've been having a pretty big change in my stool pattern (tested for parasites which came back negative) and post intercourse (a few weeks) I noticed a tender lump around my ass which I suppose could be some type of abscess.

Researching this more online I found many articles on 'thebody.com' discussing rectal health and anal cancer and it really scared me.

I see my PCP on tuesday and I'm even just a little scared to bring it up. Could things get any worse? Has anyone had any experience with any of this? I'm feeling kind of overwhelmed by the thought of something else being wrong with me.

The hardest part is probably the fear of talking to your PCP about this.  Just be matter of fact and tell him that you feel a lump back there.  He'll check it out and give you the next steps you need to follow.

Good luck!

Tom, look at it this way:  it could just as easily simply be a hemorrhoid.

Whatever the case (and I've had both hemorrhoids, anal warts and HPV) you should DEFINITELY bring it up with your doctor.  You should not let yourself fall into a situation where you are afraid to address an issue with him/her.
