The old saying "no good deed goes unpunished" sure as hell applied today, that's for sure!

I read a few threads here, posted a little and started to feel better...

I go and play a few games of pool when I've had a day like that. It does a body good to hold a long stick and knock some balls around. :o

Hope tomorrow is better.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Maybe he's out at his local pool hall, holding a big stick and knocking a few balls around. It sure works for me! ;D

Ann,

Funny you bring up the pool hall.  It brings back an old fond memory. I haven't sat foot in such an establishment in about 30 years.

The last time was when my late long term partner and I went to one.  He put on his muscle Superman shirt,  jeans and tennis shoes, I had on denim wash cuffed bell bottoms, a "silk-like" bright red shirt and sandals and picked my Afro into a huge puff.  We got in our metalic gold colored Ford Pinto and off we went. I, to say the least, was excited and more than a little neeervous.  He was just excited.

We got to the pool hall, parked the car and went in. The atmosphere was stereotypical as you can imagine with cigarette smoke, loud disco music and booze not to mention an assortment of pool hall types, mostly rough and tumble--men and women.  It was weird though as we ended up having a great time and I handled a cue stick and colorful numbered balls for the first time in my life (OK, Ann don't even start.  :D)

Years later whenever when we talked about that time we would have a huge belly laugh. :D

Cut to the present. I just took a car ride and chatted with my goddaughter's mother today and stopped by the Chicken Shack for a fried poultry infusion.

Ah, I feel even better today.

:D

I haven't actually been to a pool hall since I left the States and even then it would have been a few years before I left Ohio - nearly 28 years ago or so. I always liked the slightly dangerous atmosphere of a pool hall, but they don't have any on the Rock. Now I mostly play in my local pub - a "Cheers" type establishment where everyone knows your name - and your pool game too. It's good fun.

I played an old codger (in his late 70s) the other day. He claimed he hadn't played in over 20 years but he sure hadn't forgotten how to play. Like falling off riding a bike, I suppose. It made his day that someone would challenge him. He won a game and I won a game and we're having a decider next week. Wish me luck - both games were close. He must have been one helluva player back in the day. :)

Glad to hear you're feeling better.

All, thanks for the well wishes. I will see what the coming weeks bring.

Ann, good luck on your pool match!
