I'm sure most of you faced this issue before...

But recently this is quite new for me. As past previous years I've been working on freelance/solo jobs, so I have no issue with this. Recently I'm employed in a new company and the new company is giving health care insurance for the employees. So generally I need to provide my bloodwork with the assigned blood lab. This is giving me all the anxious and butterflies especially I'm afraid this bloodwork will give away my condition.

I'm just wondering how do you decline "politely" of such benefits and if it may, so it wouldn't sound suspicious. Because its definitely a red flag for my manager if she know I'm rejecting a company benefits.

I don't know where you work but the results shouldn't be an issue. Unless you have traces of illegal drugs or alcohol in your system.

I'm in Malaysia now. And it seems there's a possibility for the bloodwork test for hiv, if its for insurance policy.

Previously in Singapore my company found out of my status and couldn't hire me. That's when I find out I'm poz. I didn't want to go through that anymore as though everyone is looking at me differently when I walked out the manager office with my result =(

Singapore, oh Singapore…. It is shameful that an advance country still has this “rules” of not hiring a poz person.

Malaysian company cannot terminate a hiv poz person. Having said this, some will use other ways to stop employment. It is up to you to “fight your case”. If I am still employed in my previous company, I will not be bothered of them knowing my status because I know they don’t discriminate me. Yes, some Malaysian bosses still think like cavemen but most don’t. Our government is supportive of hiring hiv people. See below

Do you feel your current company is against hiv people or supportive or they don’t care if you are hiv or not?

Having said the above, Malaysia also have the same rules as Singapore when comes to issuing work permits. A medical test is needed for a permit & it will not be approved when a person is hiv. But, this usually “take place” for labour workers who are going through agencies to apply work permit.

When comes to expatriate, I know of expat who are hiv positive & still able to work here. In this manner we are better then our “little red dot” neighbour.

Hi, i am currently is learning about applying employment pass for working in Malaysia. I am confused if skilled worker like engineer, architect should pass the HIV testing for visa application? I am digging into the immigration website and got no clues. Can you advuse me related to this issue?

I am not sure too, but I recall there was a post that an expat was seeking medical at one of the private hospital while working in Malaysia.

Here is some info. Foreigners workers is “split” into two categories (temporary employment visitor pass & employment pass). Employment pass is not bound to the infectious disease act.

I wish I could offer a more concrete reply. I am not sure on this matter. What I can say is that “almost everything is possible if there is $$ under the table”.

Are you comfortable disclosing your status to the company that you are seeking employment? It could be a fast way to know by asking them directly.
